follows the lives of a group of young skateboarders in Afghanistan. Operating against the backdrop of war and bleak prospects, the Skateistan charity project is the world’s first co-educational skateboarding school, where a team of international volunteers work with girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 17, an age group largely untouched by other aid programmes.

Bathtub III – Keith Loutit

A friend of mine (Sibbles) brought this to my attention…this is really cool. It forces you to pull a stupid-face. You can’t help but to smile. Keith Loutit was shooting for a project he was working on in Sydney, Austrailia. He kindly put out a couple of clips of his work for us to check out. The style is achieved with a “tilt-shift” lens that (as Kevin explained) is used on vertical shots like tall buildings, bridges, etc. Keith has found a style of his own with this technique. I assume that the images are over-saturated to give it that “plastic” look. It seems to be still images in sequence, but I can’t tell at what frame rate.

"Step Into Liquid" (2003)

Directed by Dana Brown, the same guy that brought us, more recently, “Highwater”. This film is really a heart-warming type depiction of surfers and why they do what they do. There is great segment at about 1 min 13 secs about a break 100 miles off of the california coast in the middle of the ocean called “Cortes”. I would guess that this is about were the continental shelf would be. Anyway, the waves are huge (70+ feet) and it is almost scary to watch.

What a great film! It is a documentary of the history of surfing and it’s characters. This video is from google video and is the entire film. Check it out! It is over an hour long, so make sure you have time to watch.
